Rustic Accommodation in the Countryside of Central Finland

Do you want to explore Finnish nature and the countryside?

When you stay with us, you will have a chance to experience simple life and diverse nature as well as to learn about the history of the Finnish countryside.

We rent traditional “mummonmökki” cottages or granny’s cottages in Central Finland. On our small farm, we conserve endangered traditional biotopes and beautiful natural pastures that are full of different plant, insect and bird species. These pastures are regionally significant and offer a stimulating environment for our small herd of cows. By holidaying with us, you support our work in conserving biodiversity.

What is a “mummonmökki”?

“Mummonmökki” or granny’s cottage are traditional, small and modest dwellings  that usually have one larger living space and a maximum two bedrooms. The construction of these cottages decreased significantly in the 1950s when Finland started to become more prosperous. We don’t know the origin of the term “mummonmökki” or granny’s cottage as it directly translates but for some reason these buildings were often inhabited by older ladies living alone. Each of our cottages is named after a granny that once lived there.

In each of our cottages, you will find a wood-burning stove, creaking plank floors, a traditional Finnish outdoor sauna and an outhouse. You can read more about the cabins here.

Art, Culture and Leivonmäki National Park

Leivonmäki national park (the closest parking are) is 16 kilometers from our cottages. Internationally renowned art centre Taidelaitos Haihatus, and Tuo Tuo & Café Meijerinliiteri offer art and culture.

The closest town, Jyväskylä (50km away), offers a wide range of cultural events, concerts, experiences and architecture including the largest number of buildings designed by the world-famous architect Alvar Aalto in the world.
